COVID19. Ughhhhhhh!!! My kids call it the ‘yukky virus’ and know that there are many things that we have to put on hold until it’s gone.
One of the toughest parts of COVID19 has been the lack of contact with folks in person. I miss seeing my friends and enjoying time together and it makes me realize how important they are in my life.
When living with an eating disorder, I would have been ecstatic to have this enforced isolation. It would have been the perfect disaster in the making! The joy of recovery, however, is that I learned that the gift of friendship and connections with others makes all the difference. When hanging out with friends, there was no space for the negative voice. It wasn’t invited to any of our get-togethers and I learned the benefit of picking up the phone, sending a text, or even writing some snail mail.
So today I DARE you to connect with a friend. Granted, you might not be able to do so physically AND you can still find a way to connect. Technology means that you can FaceTime, Zoom, or Skype; you can send a text, or you can pick up the phone and talk. Whatever way you decide, though, the most important thing you’re doing is CONNECTING!
If you feel like COVID19 is holding you hostage, this dare is for you! I promise, you won’t regret connection and will actually be glad you did!
