Looking out the window

As I sat down to begin writing today, I looked up and realized that I couldn't see out the window. You see, they're painting our house and so had covered up the window with plastic sheeting, making it look frosted! It was quite a strange feeling to look out and realize that you I couldn't see out and, in some ways, made me feel a little trapped!

When struggling with anxiety and depression, the window that I looked through into the world felt the same way. Everything was a little cloudy, unclear, and leaving me to feel trapped inside my own mind. Ever felt that way - like everything was just too much, too overwhelming, or just disconnected from folks? For some, adjusting to life with COVID19 has left them feeling the same way.

So today I challenge you to look out your windows and notice the wonderful world that is staring back at you. Sure, COVID is out there AND there is so much more. It can feel suffocating staying at home and having to adjust to a new 'normal' where a connection with others is limited, but the world is still going on outside and that plastic sheeting that covers my house isn't there in reality if we remember to look beyond. And then I DARE you to pick up the phone and make a phone call to a friend to remind them that even though you're far apart, you still look out and see the same beautiful world and that you miss them!!

I know my window is only covered temporarily and the same is true for COVID, but what a great reminder to encourage us to ensure a connection with others continues so none of us feel trapped within!
