Finding the words

Recently I lost my voice. Yes, thanks to a bout of laryngitis I was lost for words and had to rest it in order for it to come back. In some ways, my loss of voice was both literal and figurative because it also coincided with a loss of words for my blog. Somehow I couldn't find the words to put down and so silence was the result ... or rather, a lack of posts!!

Do you ever feel like you don't have the words? You know you have a lot going on in your mind and yet can't find a way to express them or get them out on paper? The silence is deafening and yet, at the same time, you can't find a way to hit mute and break it. It can be frustrating to say the least and the longer we feel lost, the worse it seems to get.

In the past, I felt guilty when I missed writing blog posts. I felt I was failing at my commitment to write and hated it. What I've learned, however, is that sometimes the silence is the greatest gift there can be, for it is through the lack of noise that my brain can find what it wants to say and my voice returns. Much like resting allowed my physical voice the care it needed to return, the same is true with finding the words I want.

So today I DARE you to stop and savor the silence. Take 5 minutes to simply stop and do nothing - well, nothing other than listening to the silence and what it has to say to you. I think you'll be amazed at the words and thoughts that enter your mind if you simply stop and allow them to flow.

Go on. Take some time for you and meditate. Have the lights down low, or maybe light a candle, and just sit and absorb what the world has to say. You can do it AND you're worth giving time to!!
